About Us
Kehilat Or Hadash (KOH), founded in 2005, is a Toronto-based,
traditional Shabbat minyan community. One of its primary goals is to create a welcoming environment offering participatory and spirited davening. KOH strives to maximize women's participation in t'fila within a halakhic framework. KOH is organized by and for university students and young adults; however, we welcome participants of all ages.
In the context of Shabbat morning services, both women and men may lead psukei d'zimra and the Torah service, leyn (read) Torah and haftarah, and be called up for aliyot. Parts of the service involving kadish, k'dusha, or barchu (i.e. Shacharit and Musaf) are led by men. 10 men and 10 women are required in order to begin davening.
We are currently experimenting various locations for our services in the city, while our "home-base" remains at The Wolfond Centre for Jewish Campus Life building (Hillel at the University of Toronto). We thank Hillel for their continued support and partnership.
